IRMC CCU Named Best Nursing Team in Florida by ADVANCE For Nurses Magazine
VERO BEACH - ADVANCE for Nurses magazine named Indian River Medical Center’s Critical Care Unit 2007’s Best Nursing Team in Florida, highlighting the team in a color five-page spread and cover photo in the April 30 issue.
The cover features Randi Gravlee, R.N., CCRN, CCU leadership council chair, in the hospital’s Memorial Garden surrounded by nurses who staff the 60-member unit.
It was Gravlee that submitted the essay that resulted in her team’s recognition. Her opening lines of the essay - taken from the famous Sister Sledge anthem – echo a spirit and a theme that permeates the unit - “We are family. I’ve got all my sisters with me.” Nurses from outside the magazine’s Florida circulation area judge the entries.
The essay spoke of many of the unit’s highlights – interdisciplinary rounds, the rapid response team, the Beacon Award, post recovery care of heart surgery patients and continuing nurse education.
To honor their hard work and achievements, the unit’s nurses received an engraved plaque commemorating the award and each nurse was given a personalized certificate.
Published biweekly, ADVANCE for Nurses provides information on clinical, management, professional and career development issues for nurses practicing in all areas of the profession.
Members of the team along with IRMC President/CEO Jeff Susi, Randi Gravlee, R.N., Dr. George Mitchell, CCU medical director, and Carl Martin, senior vice president and chief operating officer.
